OUGD404: Studio Brief 2 - What is a Book? (Brief & Initial Thoughts)

Brief

Produce a book made up of a set of 10 double page layouts.

Your page content that should be informed by a personal interest but should, in turn, demonstrate a growing understanding of the fundamental principles of grid, layout, type and format plus the form, function and construction of books.

Initial thoughts for this brief were to choose a topic that was one of my own personal interests. Given that technology has been a big part of my life, I've always had a big interest in it, constantly keeping up to date with conferences, new releases of phones etc.

After discussing this idea with a one of my peers, we decided that given this was one of our biggest interests that we would collaborate on this project in the hope to create something that would be reflective of both of our styles of design and also our shared interest in all things tech.

Initial Thoughts

Straight away we established that we would have different sections for different kinds of tech, we wanted to include all the new and upcoming tech that would be interesting to most people. But for the most part this isn't all that affordable for everyone, so we thought of doing two other sections, one cheap section such as 'tech under £100' and one handy section which would be more student oriented helpful tech.

Much rather than having a formal book about tech where we'd discuss the products and their advantages and disadvantages, we wanted to make something that would be interesting to everyone through the use of an informal, personal tone of voice. Making an unconventional publication, especially on something that doesn't necessarily interest everyone, we thought would hopefully bring light to the topic and attract people's attention that wouldn't normally be interested.

Given that this publication would be done by both of us as opposed to one person, we needed to make sure we evenly split the work amount during the process of making it.
