OUGD406: Studio Brief 03 - Exhibition Branding (Wayfinding Ideas & Mockups)

I was given the job of designing the way finding for the exhibition and one thing that was suggested by Dylan and expanded on by the rest of the group was to have large scale boxes with designs and typography on them as way finding to lead people in the right direction to the main exhibition room.

This was the image that inspired us to create these boxes that would pop out at people visiting the exhibition and would make for an interesting visual within the exhibition space itself.

Baring this in mind, I thought about how these boxes could be used for way finding. One way was to hang these from the ceiling and have appropriate designs on there whilst incorporating arrows to point people in the right direction.

Another way I thought of displaying them was on the floor dotted around at the side of the pathway.

After discussing this idea with the group, although they liked it, we needed a form of way finding that could be displayed throughout the staircase and hallways combined so that it can direct people rather than the boxes which would be dotted around and wouldn't work as well when trying to direct people up staircases.

To resolve this I took inspiration from the typeface we current had and thought of continuing the stripes of the letters and using these as the way finding which would be black vinyl on the wall which could be much more easily applied within the building to guide people.

Mockups of Idea

I also created a mockup of how we could possibly design and create the boxes that would be presented within the exhibition room as an interesting greeting visual.
